PRESCHOOL BOOKS FOR ALL
The Story of Preschool Books for All
In the fall of 2024, former Preschool For All board member Jennifer Lamb and preschool director of the St. Helena Cooperative Nursery School, Maureen Kelly piloted a simple but powerful idea at the Co-op: give every preschool child a brand-new book to begin their school year. The goal was to spark a love of reading, support local families, and remind every child that their community believes in them.
The pilot was such a success that this fall, Preschool Books for All has expanded to include all seven partnering preschools.
A GIFT FOR EVERY CHILD
This initiative goes beyond children receiving Preschool For All scholarships. Every preschool-aged child (ages 2–5) in Rutherford, St. Helena, Calistoga, and Angwin will receive a book, no matter their background, school, or income.
Books will be purchased locally from:
Wild Plum Bookstore (St. Helena)
Copperfield’s Books (Calistoga)
Wild Plum has generously offered to keep each book $20 or under, supporting both our mission and our local small businesses.

ADOPT A PRESCHOOL
You can be part of something simple and incredibly meaningful.
By adopting a preschool, you help us gift a book to every child in one of our local preschools. It’s a beautiful way to show our youngest learners and their families that their community sees them, believes in them, and celebrates their journey.
How it works:
$20 or less per child
$400–$500 sponsors an entire preschool (typically 20–25 children)
You’re invited to help personally deliver books this fall
Join a book drop-off. Celebrate a child’s first book. Help build a tradition of literacy and belonging; one child, one book, one community at a time.
